what I'm into

on my nightstand... I'm actually reading 2 books right now... I'm still reading Off the Grid (I'm allllmost done!) and I couldn't wait so I started reading Days of War Nights of Love which is amazing (and printed with soy ink on 100% post-consumer recycled paper)... after reading this review, how could I not want to read it?!

“'This is how we have came to be the ones to fire the first shots of the third and final World War, the war which will be fought for total liberation.' So the book begins, beautifully written and crafted—Days of War, Nights of Love breathes a vision of living life for every sunset and every star, for every kiss and for every brick thrown, not for consuming or buying and selling. This book tells a story of a future that is attainable only if we look to ourselves to create it, a life of living for the beauty of things, for living life like every day is your last. The writing is both poetic and inspiring, not only criticizing the world we live in today but also provides a broad vision of a more just and liberating world. It is broken up into various sections. Writings are on a wide variety of topics from sex to consumerism to theft to love to anarchism and hierarchy. It consists mostly of essays and writings from the free newspaper Harbinger, also put out by the CrimethInc collective. What makes it so complete is the beautiful layout and artwork that graces each page. Days of War, Nights of Love is arguably one of the most inspiring and liberating books that I’ve read in a long time, a book that I find myself going back to again and again, to suck the marrow out of it and collapse within its wonderfully crafted words. A manifesto for building a new world that should be on the bookshelf of every idealist, student, punk rocker, worker and ex-worker, poet, and lover. 'And life is waiting for you with us, on the peaks of unclimbed mountains, in the smoke of campfires and burning buildings, in the arms of lovers who will turn your world upside down. Come join us'”

want to read... water for elephants... again! before I go see the movie... I remember it was amazing but I think I need a quick refresher on the details so I can remind myself once again that movies can never compare to books.... even if I can stare at my former favorite vampire crush, Edward (aka Robert Pattinson)

tv show worth watching.... Not American Idol... I ended our love affair of a few years because I'm disappointed in the way this season is going... all the talented girls get voted off... my fave Casey gets voted off and Scotty is still there... WTF? I'll stick with Glee, thank you very much.

movie I've seen.... I finally watched Burlesque (and despised it... so much that I actually fast forwarded the last 30 minutes to see how it ended because I couldn't watch it anymore) and Black Swan (weird.... but good)

in my ears...

items of note... I saw a commercial for It Gets Better while watching last night's episode of Glee and it brought tears to my eyes... what a beautiful ad inspiring message! It's so important for anyone struggling to know that it does get better and I hope they continue to play commercials like this to get people's attention... spread the love people!

Also.... Thank you everyone for your concern about Elizabeth Taylor... she is doing well despite the separation from her sister, Cleopatra (who slept almost the whole way to Wisconsin and met her new dad, Josh, and brothers, Baby Kitty and Mikey Man, last night) and she's actually following me around the way Cleo used to...

what I'm looking forward to... sewing and painting! Now that I know how to use my sewing machine I'm obsessed with it and I am constantly thinking of new potential projects... I also have a few ideas for paintings that I can't wait to find some time to put on canvas! I'm also looking forward to reading my little sister's blog... she just graduated and got her own website www.sldooley.com... so proud of her!

  2. That review calls the BOOK poetic... frankly, the review itself is pretty poetic! LOL Oh, and I'm glad Elizabeth Taylor is feeling better!

  3. I did love Water for Elephants, but don't remember much about it. I'd definitely have to reread it before I saw the movie. I used to be a faithful watcher of American Idol, but the negative energy really brought me down. There is a huge difference between constructive criticism and just plain mean. I had to dump it. Too bad, I was watching it for the amazing singing talent, but no more. Days of War, Nights of Love sounds pretty interesting, I'll have to give that a go sometime. Right now I'm reading A Course in Miracles. Takes tons of concentration and I'll probably finish it sometime next year... ;)
