I'm lucky enough to have 2 Half Price Book stores, both within 10 minutes of my house, that I check for new books and magazines weekly. I also have an amazon account (and an amazon prime student membership) and wishlist (with three categories, kindle books, non-kindle books, & everything else). I have 2 bookshelves full of my favorite books and books waiting to be read. I love reading.
So yesterday, I was reading a GOOD Design article I found on twitter, which suggested a few books to read to be a better designer. I quickly looked them up on Amazon, then decided to look them up on Half Price Book's website. From there I was linked with an amazing website that I think might end my long-term relationship with Amazon.
Better World Books
Better World books is global bookstore, that has raised over $9 million for global literacy and reused/recycled over 54 million books.
I ordered 3 books...
- Tales of a Female Nomad: Living at Large in the World
- Sparks of Genius: the Thirteen Thinking Tools of the World's Most Creative People
- The All New Universal Traveler: a Soft-Systems Guide to Creativity, Problem-Solving, and the Process
and paid $11.72. That prices includes shipping, too! So not only did I get an amazing deal on some books, I also helped fund literacy and library programs worldwide. Amazing company.
As a side note, I read in the GOOD Design article that you should focus on one area in design and become an expert at it. Without hesitation, I've decided that I am going to focus on sustainable design. My college doesn't offer any classes that cover sustainability, but I'm hopeful that I'll be able to find some courses, either on-line or at another school, to take.
See all the new things I learned today... all because of reading :)
What are you reading?
What an incredible deal! I'm jealous. :) I love books, if I could get three for 11 dollars I'd be in heaven! LOL
ReplyDeleteI just finished The Answer is Simple by Sonia Choquette and liked it so much that I ordered another and started it this morning. So far it's fantastic, all about balancing the chakras ~True Balance, a Commonsense Guide for Renewing Your Spirit. I'll have to check out Better World Books, thanks for passing along the info! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great website Sara, thanks for the heads up!
ReplyDeleteI just started reading a book by Esther and Jerry Hicks called "Ask and It Is Given, Learning to Manifest Your Desires". Esther supposedly channels this "Non Physical" group of spiritual beings collectively called Abraham. So far so good, sometimes I'm skeptical about channels, but I figure take what resonates and dump the rest.
Melinda, your books sound good!
Both of your books sound good! I'll have to check and see if half-price books or better world books has them! One of my friends is doing a yoga teacher training and reading about chakras right now so I bet she would like it too!
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about chakras or channels so I need to read up!
