wax poetic

Saturday is finally here... and I hope it goes by quickly because I have a lot going on today so I'm looking forward to a peaceful Sunday.

I haven't been able to get on my computer at all, which is driving me absolutely crazy! We have a mi-fi card to access the internet from Verizon Wireless and we reached our max usage on Monday so I've been using my phone to post blogs, which isn't easy. I downloaded a great app to keep up with all the lovely blogs I read, called gReader. I get updates as soon as blogs I follow are posted and I love that! However, it doesn't have an option to leave comments... which is frustrating! Our plan starts over tomorrow and we're going to upgrade to a bigger plan so hopefully we won't have this problem again. My poor macbook was feeling neglected! Right now I'm using my bf's phone to get online because my huge research paper is due today and I haven't been able to work on it at all....

But I have been working on my painting.... The picture isn't great because I used my phone and it still needs a few touch ups so I'll post a better picture later but for now.....
I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite paintings... I love the quote and I love the way the shades of blue/green look against the black background. and I just really like letters.

So today I'm going to go in a slightly different direction with the poetry.... I'm going to share with you a few of my favorite poetic passages from some of my favorite authors. They are excellent at what my high school english teacher taught me, waxing poetically, and these lines seriously made me stop reading so that I could absorb the words. Then I read them over and over, with awe and sheer joy that I had discovered such a beautiful arrangement of words. Now I get to share them with you and hopefully you will love them just as much.

The following are my favorite excerpts from the book Breakable You by Brian Morton, a gut wrenching, yet beautiful book that is absolutely overflowing with emotion. They each sang to me while my nose was buried deeply in the pages...

"Without her glasses, Vivian did look a little frightening. She had tight, sinewy, strappy muscles, and a face that was hardened and almost brutal - a face that might have been chiseled by a sculptor who had fallen out of love with the idea of beauty."

"We wish for symmetry of feeling, but we rarely get it. It is painful to be the one who loves more, and painful to be the one who loves less."

"The river was so blue it seemed to be breathing."

"Grief is like an artist, immersed in the particular, transforming each of us in a different way."

  9. Okay, I have to ask, how much are you selling that painting for? I can't stop thinking about it, so I'm hoping it's way out of my price range and I can leave you alone!! ;)

  10. Thanks so much Melinda... it makes me so happy that you love it :) I'm going to sell it for $200, which I think is reasonable but everyone else tells me I should raise my prices... I just love painting and want to make art that people can not only appreciate but afford :)

  11. It is most definitely worth it, it's beautiful. How big is it? You've probably mentioned that before... I guess I'll wait and see if you sell it at The Wine Gallery, someone will probably just snatch it up! Keep me posted!! :)
