tattoo inspiration (day 59)

So I've decided for my birthday, my gift to myself is going to be my 5th tattoo... which I've been wanting for a while. I always have ideas floating around in my head of what I want. I thought I wanted a peace symbol with some pretty swirly vines and flowers on my wrist, but I think I've found something else. I still want the peace symbol.... I just want this more...

There's this poem by e.e. cummings that I absolutely have loved forever.

found on etsy

"may my heart always be open to little
birds who are the secrets of living
whatever they sing is better than to know
and if men should not hear them men are old
may my mind stroll about hungry
and fearless and thirsty and supple
and even if it’s sunday may i be wrong
for whenever men are right they are not young
and may myself do nothing usefully
and love yourself so more than truly
there’s never been quite such a fool who could fail
pulling all the sky over him with one smile"

Beautiful, right? So I think I want the first 2 lines of the poem written on my inner forearm with a few little flying birds. I just can't decide if I want it written in my handwriting or if I want it to like as though it was typed.

I'm getting a little more daring with placement of my tattoos because every day it becomes more and more clear that I am not looking for a conventional career that will frown upon visible tattoos.

Now I just need to make an appointment... only 27 more days until my 29th birthday.... yikes!

Day 59 - A picture of a random item that you own.

Doesn't get more random than a Home Grown Lemon Goat....

You are more 3D than these city streets (day 18)

I had the pleasure of hearing an amazing, talented performance poetess last weekend at the Paseo Arts Festival. Her name is Lauren Zuniga and as soon as she started speaking, she had my full attention. Her words are so powerful and beautifully arranged... she is a total inspiration and I wanted to share her website and a video of one of her poems...

If you do just one thing today.... or tomorrow... let it be watching one of these poems or reading a poem from her website. I promise that you will feel her words deep within your soul. I highly recommend Love Poem for Self and A Benediction for Hustlers and Gardeners.

you can read (and be moved by) all her poems at www.laurenzuniga.com

Day 18 - A picture of your biggest insecurity

Oh this one was fun... biggest security. Which one? How do I decide, how do I rank them, how do I pick just one as being the biggest. I have many, although I think I have less that I used to.
The one I decided on is one that I have to deal with every single day.

My freaking blond eyebrows and blond eyelashes.

I basically have to wear mascara and pencil my eyebrows in every single day, unless if I'm not leaving the house, because if I don't, you can't see them. Imagine yourself without eyebrows... it's weird and makes me look like my forehead is never ending. I would like to get them tattooed on some day, but I'm nervous and want to find someone who is going to do a perfect job. So until then, I recommend buying stock in Maybelline.

The results are in...

And not only did I pass the exam with flying colors, I also got the bonus questions right... so i ended up with 107% :) which puts my overall grade in class for this semester real close to 100%! Not bad considering I barely passed algebra and failed geometry in high school.
This news put me in such a good mood that I decided to skip Photoshop class last night and treat myself to a brand new episode of Vampire Diaries. It's my guilty pleasure and I'm head over heels for Damon. So I painted, drooled a little and then met my bf and 5 guys he works with at Buffalo Wild Wings. I got home pretty late but surprisingly I woke up feeling great.
Today is all about cleaning and then getting a 90 minute massage at 2... I'm counting down the seconds!

I've been searching my bookshelves and notebooks for the perfect poems to share and the poem I selected today was found in my Whole Living magazine.

in perpetual spring

Gardens are also good places
to sulk. You pass beds of
spiky voodoo lilies
and trip over the roots
of a sweet gum tree,
in search of medieval
plants whose leaves,
when they drop off
turn into birds
if through fall on land,
and colored carp if they
plop into water.

Suddenly the archetypal
human desire for peace
with every other species
wells up in you. The lion
and the lamb cuddling up.
The snake and the small, kissing.
Even the prick of the thistle,
queen of weeds, revives
your secret belief
in perpetual spring,
your faith that for every hurt
there is a leaf to cure it.
