what i'm into

I have saw questions similar to these on several blogs in my google reader and decided to give it a try. Figured this may be a good end of the month wrap up... so since it's the last day of February................

On My Nightstand: Sits The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest. I finished it late last night and need to browse my book shelves before bed tonight to pick out a new one.

Want to Read:  Eat, Pray, Love. Again. I fall in love with it even more each time I read it… I even have my favorite lines circled or highlighted!

T.V. Show Worth Watching: I’m sad to say the majority of television shows I dvr are reality. Ugh… I know. Disappointing. There is a good show on Sundance Channel called LOVE/LUST that takes everyday items of desire, and deconstructs them to unpack the historical, social and pop culture events that made them the icons they are today. So far I’ve watched bikini’s, little black dresses and high heels!
I’m also pretty obsessed with Glee and Vampire Diaries, although I’m only slightly embarrassed to admit that.

Movie I've Seen (in or out of the theater):  I haven’t watch many movies lately but I did rent the Social Network, which I liked. I found it pretty interesting the way something that people use so often came to be.

In My Ears:  ahhh… I’ve been experimenting with new music lately. Pete and Kerry are probably my current favorite… their song Knees is ah-maz-ing. Agent Ribbons, Braids, Andrew Belle, Pretty Black Chains, Phoenix, and Crash Kings. And the Singer-Songwriter channel on Direct TV… good stuff

Items of Note: I have two purple chunks in my hair, which I love. Thank you Leon at Velvet Monkey Salon! Maybe I'll add some blue next month.
I have regressed back to elementary school. I recently scored 50 out of 50 points on my first business math exam and seriously almost hung it on my fridge. I’m halfway through my first semester at college and I’m getting A’s in all my classes :) yay for me!
I’ve also recently joined Twitter. I always said I wouldn’t but I’m slightly addicted. It’s so much fun and of course I follow awesome people like Wayne Coyne and Zooey Deschanel.
I discovered Nylon and Bust magazine and now my life is complete.

What I'm Looking Forward To Next Month: Donate, Dine and Wine at West. Warmer weather. The Run Lucky 5k with Diana. Working on a few special order paintings. Volunteering at Individual Artists of Oklahoma. Getting my second student loan disbursement so I can buy a Mac and say adios to doing all my homework in the mac lab at school!

Good bye February.... Helllllooooo March!

the s word

I came across a picture that perfectly sums up how I'm feeling right now, which doesn't happy very often.

I'm over the s word. I don't think it's pretty. I hate being stuck in my house. I don't like seeing a negative sign in front of a single digit number on the thermometer. I don't enjoy shoveling it. I really really don't like trying to drive anywhere. Not because I don't know how to drive in it, because I do. Driving in it is actually the only thing I like about winter. It's all the other assholes who don't know how to drive that really irritate me.
But I realize that despite the negative temps, I need to let go of my negative feelings. So i'm just going to pretend I live here and hope that some day this dream comes true.

Ah, Bali. I've been obsessed with Bali since reading Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat, Pray, Love. amazing book. So this picture is now the wallpaper on my netbook and my droid. I may be surrounded by snow but my mind is on a sunny beach in Indonesia.

what I know for sure

As I sit at my kitchen table eating an apple reading O magazine I'm inspired by the past page every month. Every day is a learning experience, some more so than others. Here's some highlights of things I've learned and what I now know. for sure.

-15 degrees is freaking cold and utterly indescribable unless tetth chatters can be translated into words.
Love is deeper than snow.
When you have no other choice, you can dig down deep and summon courage from a place that you probably never even knew existed.
Furniture is really not necessary if you have books and a blanket.
Stuff doesn't cure lonliness - only emptiness. and emptiness usually isn't the issue.
Sticks and stones may break bones, but words can pierce through your heart and drain every last drop of confidence you possess - even if that wasn't the intention.
Unwillingness to forgive is like the first gunshot in a war.
Life is made up of little battles... choose them wisely.
Confusion can be mistaken for fear.
A smile makes it hurt less.
Sometimes shaking is involuntary.
Friends are like a great bra - they support you and hold you up!
Listening is better than giving advice.
Herbs need big windowsills.
Submitting your artwork for a show is absolutely a huge step and makes me incredibly nervous that people are going to be judging me on photos of what I paint.

Mr. Big tribute

Thank you Mr. Big for this amazing song that I spent hours of my childhood singing into a hair brush at the top of my lungs. I have waited on many lines of greens and blues... just to be the next to be with you.
